Orangeburg, S.C. - Kaiyana Johnson's 14 kills led three Bethune-Cookman players in double-figure kills, but the Wildcats remained winless in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play Friday night as South Carolina posted a 3-2 (24-30,30-28,30-24,20-30,15-7) victory in Dukes Gymnasium. B-CU (2-7 overall,0-2 conference) lost its second straight match and fourth in the last fifth. South Carolina State improved to 7-14 overall and .500 (1-1) in league play. Danielle Goodrum and Chelle Tyson added 13 and 10 kills respectively as the Wildcats took an opponent to five games for the first time this season. Setter Julie Gibson registered 42 assists, while Alyse Guzman paced the Wildcat defensive effort with 28 digs. Monique Walker had a match-high 15 kills to lead South Carolina State in addition to 25 digs. Bethune-Cookman will be back in action tomorrow afternoon against Winston-Salem State University in Winston-Salem, N.C.
