Norfolk, Va. - The Bethune-Cookman university women's tennis squad extended its winning streak out to five matches on Friday with a 6-1 victory over Norfolk State University at the NSU Tennis Complex in Norfolk, Va.

A quick and relentless pace was what charged at the Spartans of NSU (7-4, 5-3 MEAC) on Friday morning as the B-CU attack was brutal at all positions.

B-CU (15-2, 7-1 MEAC) took the opening doubles point to grab the quick 1-0 lead by sweeping all sets in the decision.

Wildcats sophomore Monika Musilova and freshman Jeneice Ward combined for the 8-0 shutout of NSU's Ashlee Daugherty and Donita Peterson at the No. 3 position. The best match came at the top (No. 1) as B-CU's Olga Ruislova and Kiara Powell teamed up for the hard-fought 8-5 win over the Spartans' Fiorella Valdivia and Lerissa Morris.

With the victory, Ruislova and Powell stretched their doubles streak for wins out to four (4) matches, and improved to 9-1 in their last 10 contests together.

The Spartans took the No. 1 singles point as NSU's Fiorella Valdivia blew past the racket of Olga Ruislova on scores of 7-5, 0-6, 6-2. With the loss, Ruislova lowered her record to 10-7 at the No. 1 spot for the Wildcats this season.

Meanwhile, the Wildcats took 10 of the next 11 sets as only one match went to a third set on the day in No. 2 through No. 6 singles action.

Wildcats senior Lucia Polakova had a tough match with NSU's Flaminia Migone, but eventually outlasted her counterpart on scores of 2-6, 6-2, 6-0 for the win. Polakova improved to 12-3 at No. 2 singles play on the year.

Kiara Powell, last year's MEAC Rookie of the Year, continued her winning streak out to a blistering 15 matches with a straight-set shutout (6-0, 6-0) over the Spartans' Donita Peterson in the No. 3 position. Monika Musilova stretched her winning streak to 16 matches while improving to 9-0 in her last nine matches with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Lerissa Morris of NSU in the No. 4 position.

Valerie Kendrick and Jeneice Ward both earned straight-set wins for the `Cats in the No. 5 and No. 6 positions, respectively.

Bethune-Cookman will play yet another match in Norfolk, Va. tomorrow as they take on North Carolina A&T back on the campus of Norfolk State University. The match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
