Daytona Beach, Fla. - Saint Louis University was no match for the powerful Bethune-Cookman University women's netters on Saturday as they down their opponent by a score of 4-2 at the City Island Tennis Complex in Daytona Beach, Fla.

With no doubles match being played today due to St. Louis having another match against Embry-Riddle just hours later, the Wildcats needed to get everything they could from their singles players today.

The always-steady hand of sophomore newcomer Monika Musilova kept her record perfect in spring duel matches at 14-0 with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over St. Louis' Rachel McCullagh at the No. 4 position. In the process, Musilova improved to 28-3 in her first year at B-CU (13-2) stretching back to tournament play in the fall season.

At the No. 3 position, B-CU sophomore Kiara Powell had a great battle with Tara Grant of the Billikens (5-10). Powell fought past her with a straight-set victory on scores of 6-1, 7-5.

SLU's Katerina Lozanova (No. 1) and Ana Renda (No. 2) earned both wins for the Billikens as they had two of the best matches played all day long.

Senior Olga Ruislova went toe-to-toe with Lozanova until the very end. Ruislova had her serve broken twice in the end for 7-5, 7-5 set losses at the No. 1 position.

As for the No. 2 position, Lucia Polakova also battled hard with SLU's Renda. Polakova eventually fell in a supermatch with scores of 6-3, 6-7 (6), 10-7.

B-CU's Valerie Kendrick helped to secure the win for the Wildcats as she battled past Jo Becker in a straight-set win (6-1, 6-2) at the No. 5 position. Freshman Jeneice Ward defeated Caitlin Bokulic at the No. 6 position with scores of 6-1, 6-4.

With the win today, the Wildcats women's team moves their winning streak out to three matches, as well as defeating the Billikens of Saint Louis in back-to-back years in Daytona Beach.

Bethune-Cookman women's netters will get back into the swing of things on Tuesday when they host the University of Rhode Island at 3 p.m. at the City Island Tennis Complex in Daytona Beach. Admission to this event is free to all.
