April 12, 2007 Daytona Beach, Fla. - It's that time of year again, and Bethune-Cookman University softball is headed to the Second Annual Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Round-Up in Lexington, S.C. Once there, the Wildcats will be taking on all six teams from the Northern Division, i.e. Hampton and Delaware State. B-CU enters this weekend's affair with a 15-25 overall record, and an even record of 2-2 in conference play. But they have suddenly found their bats as the team is connecting on an average of .317 overall ... jumping up 22 points in the last two weeks. Delaware State and Hampton appear to be the top teams in the north, while North Carolina A&T and Norfolk State are two of the better teams in the south. This year has been a down year for the state of Florida as both FAMU and B-CU are struggling finding their way thus far in the year. Since the start of the new millennium, the MEAC title has not left the sunshine state, with either Bethune-Cookman or Florida A&M holding the crown ever since. The Wildcats will look towards first-year head coach Chris Cochran to provide the leadership down the stretch in order to try and bring the crown back to the beach. B-CU will play Coppin State and Morgan State out of Baltimore on Friday; coming back to face-off against Maryland-Eastern Shore and Howard on Saturday; before finishing up with both Hampton and Delaware State on "Black Sunday"--as both teams are playing extremely well so far. The `Cats head to South Carolina with six (6) student-athletes batting above .300 on the year, including All-MEAC candidate Brandi Holley at first base posting a whopping .386 average with a team-high tying three homeruns and second-best fielding percentage of .959 on the year. Teammate and fellow All-MEAC candidate Breanna Shaw is right behind Holley with a stunning .382 average at the plate with a team-high tying three homeruns and team-high 47 hits. Shaw is also second on the team, in stolen bases (9), as well as a team-best 13 doubles. For more information on the MEAC Round-Up, please locate your internet browser to www.MEACsports.com.
