Call Softball Contact Michael Stambaugh for more details - 386.481.2278 ORMOND BEACH, Fla. - The Wildcats kept the energy up from their early-day win over Hampton as they faced off with the Lady Bison of Howard University in their second MEAC Softball Championships game. Much like the first game, the Wildcats got on the board early and held strong on defense to hold of Howard and going on to win 4-1. The win takes the Wildcats to the MEAC Semifinals, where they will face off with Southern Division #1 seed, Florida A&M. Keeping up the energy from the early game, the Wildcats came out firing in the top of the first inning. B-CU got on the board as the third batter, Cesley Tafoya, singled to left field and drove in Ashton Hinds for the first run. On the next at-bat, Allison Garcia batted a single through the right side, bringing Simone Ceasar across the plate. Sabrina Ferguson hit a long line drive; although the ball was caught, the sacrifice scored another run as Cesley Tafoya crossed Home Plate, giving B-CU a 3-0 lead.
Though the Wildcats were held from scoring again until late in the game, the Wildcats locked down the Lady Bison most of the game, holding them scoreless through to the fifth inning, when Howard put a single run on the board. The Wildcats responded immediately, in the top of the sixth inning, when leadoff batter Sabrina Ferguson homered up the middle on the first pitch, extending the lead again to three at 4-1. Although the Lady Bison earned opportunities in the bottom of the seventh, the Wildcats shut them down and finished out the game with the three-run lead. Simone Ceasar and Cesley Tafoya led B-CU in hitting, each collecting two hits and one run, with Tafoya also earning an RBI. However, one of the most crucial players in today's outcome was Sabrina Ferguson, whose late home run shut down Howard's momentum and reclaimed control of the game, also giving her a second RBI. Allison Garcia again pitched B-CU's tournament game, collecting six strikeouts with no Earned Runs. The Wildcats now return to action in Friday's Semifinal at 11:30 am, facing off with Florida A&M at Ormond Beach Sports Complex.
