Orlando, Fla. - The University of Central Florida, better known as UCF, took both games of a doubleheader on Thursday over visiting Bethune-Cookman University with scores of 9-1 and 18-2 at the UCF Softball Complex in Orlando, Fla.

B-CU (8-19) got on the board first in both games as they took a 1-0 lead in the first contest courtesy an RBI single up the middle from Christina Trimble that plated freshman Tameika Jonas from second base.

UCF would score in the bottom-half of the frame to knot the score at 1-1 when Breanne Javier singled to bring around CiCi Alvarez from second base.

The Golden Knights of UCF (18-12) scored six runs in the final two innings to close out the game in early fashion.

UCF was led by designated hitter Allison Kime with a 3-for-4 game at the plate including two runs and one RBI. Starting pitcher Ashleigh Cole looked phenomenal for the Golden Knights as she shut down the B-CU bats with just two hits allowed, but struck out just two batters.

Both hits in the first game came via junior centerfielder Christina Trimble for the Wildcats.

In the nightcap affair, freshman Lanaya Jenkins toed the rubber once again for the Wildcats as the starting pitcher.

B-CU once again jumped on top early by plating two runs in the top-half of the opening frame.

Shortstop Holly Bussey doubled down the right field line to bring around Tameika Jonas for the lead. That was followed up with a run-scoring double to center field from first baseman Brandi Holley.

The `Cats led 2-0 heading into what would be a disastrous bottom-half of the first inning.
 

 

UCF scored an unprecedented 17 runs in the first inning to run out to a decisive lead.

Amber Lamb connected on a two-run homer to left field as teammate Kacie Feaster started off the inning with an inside the park homerun herself.

The Golden Knights batted around the top of the order three (3) times before the undermanned Wildcats could get out of the inning.

B-CU hung tough the rest of the way as they allowed just two hits the final three innings of play.

UCF got an insurance run in the third inning when Alvarez singled up the middle and advanced into scoring position with a ground-out on the next play. She came in to score one batter later when Javier singled up the middle for the final score of 18-2.

Lexi Gresham collected the win for the Golden Knights as she spread out five hits and two runs in five innings in the pitcher's circle. She improved to 2-1 on the season.

The loss went to B-CU's Lanaya Jenkins who dropped her record to 0-2 on the day and 3-13 for the season.

Two of the Wildcats five hits went to Holly Bussey as she collected an RBI and scored once in the game.

The `Cats will step back onto the dusty trail again this weekend as they travel to Savannah State University for a Saturday doubleheader at the Paulson Complex located directly near the Savannah State campus in Savannah, Ga. Game time is set for a 1 p.m. start.
