Final Stats

Boca Raton, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman College was unable to get the "three pack" against Jacksonville on Sunday as they fell 4-1 to the Dolphins in the final game of the FAU Worth Classic at FAU Softball Field in Boca Raton, Fla. The Wildcats finished the weekend with just a 1-4 overall mark.

With Bethune-Cookman (5-9) serving as the home team for the game, freshman Lanaya Jenkins stepped inside the pitcher's circle for the Wildcats after picking up her second save of the season yesterday against this same Dolphins team.

JU (3-12) jumped on the board first in the top-half of the third inning as Jillian Mirante started things off with a single through the left side, and then advanced herself to second courtesy a Valerie Alter sacrifice bunt. Leadoff hitter Sara Gordon served up a sacrifice fly to score Mirante for the 1-0 Jacksonville lead.

The Wildcats quickly answered back in the home-half of the third inning as Tameika Jonas registered one of her two hits on the day with a single to center field. Third baseman Breanna Shaw advanced Jonas with a sacrifice bunt and the Chris Cochran led Wildcats had a runner in scoring position with one out.

A Christina Trimble single through the right side plated Jonas for the tie ballgame at 1-1. The run was unearned to JU starting pitcher Shannon Jensen, however, as Jonas advanced to third before coming in to score via an error on the Dolphins infield.

JU answered the call in the fourth as they plated two runs with just one (1) hit and two Wildcats errors in the inning.

Ashley Mora came in on the first score with a single from Simone Bruemmer, and teammate Jensen helped her own cause by scoring on a fielder's choice later in the inning. Neither run was credited towards Jenkins' ERA on the year as both were unearned with errors.

The Dolphins of JU added one more run in the sixth inning for good measure as they avoid the 0-for-3 collar against the `Cats of B-CC on the week.

Both starting pitchers went the distance for the respective teams, but it was B-CC's Lanaya Jenkins who was tagged with the loss to drop her record for the campaign down to 2-6. Meanwhile, Shannon Jensen of JU picked up her first win on the year, now sitting with a 1-5 record.

Simone Bruemmer had the only multi-hit performance for the Dolphins on the day with two hits and two RBI in three at-bats. The Dolphins touched Jenkins just seven times on the day for four (4) runs--just one earned, though.

As for B-CC, they were led by the heavy stick of Christina Trimble as she went 3-for-4 at the plate with one RBI. She also posted two putouts from her left field position. The Wildcats struck Jensen for 10 hits on the day, but could just muster up the one run for the contest. Tameika Jonas also had a multi-hit performance with a perfect 2-for-2 day with the bat and the lone run scored for the Wildcats.

The last two weekends, the `Cats have a combined record of just 1-9 in two tournaments played--one at Georgia Southern and this weekend at Florida Atlantic. But the signs of plate discipline and game management are there for the Wildcats as first-year head coach Chris Cochran is putting the pieces together for the future ... and what a bright future it is sure to be. The `Cats are playing with confidence, and are ever-so-lurking towards a big upset in the future.

The Wildcats will now take a much-needed week off before traveling back down south to Boca Raton for the Worth Invitational hosted by Florida Atlantic University. The first contest for the `Cats will be against Columbia on Friday, Mar. 2 at 3 p.m. Live stats will be available through Game Tracker on the B-CC athletic website.
