Contact B-CU SID Mark Johnson (386) 481-2206 - Daytona Beach, Florida - Coach Freeman Steps Down As Head Coach of Men's and Women's Golf At Bethune-Cookman University Dr. Gary Freeman, B-CU's men's and women's golf coach since August of 1998, will be stepping down as head coach. Coach Freeman will stay to help with the transition of naming a new head coach by the end of the year. "It is time. I have worked 55 straight years full-time and I have had 12 good years at Bethune-Cookman University with the golf program," said Coach Freeman in announcing his intentions to step down. "Gary Freeman has been a Godsend to our university," said B-CU Athletic Director Lynn Thompson. "A Ph.D, a PGA pro and a seasoned administrator all rolled into one person. He is the architect of our golf program and his successor will have a solid blueprint to continue the progress in our program for years to come. We look to have his successor in place by the end of the year and Dr. Freeman has graciously agreed to remain with us to assure a smooth transition." Coach Freeman led the Lady Wildcat women's program to six National Minority College Golf Championships and the men's program to four National Minority titles during his coaching career at B-CU.
