Stone Mountain, Ga. - Ebonie Burgess fired a tournament-low 74 in the final round to help Bethune-Cookman University secure back-to-back Women's Collegiate Championship over the weekend at the Stone Mountain, Golf Course in Stone Mountain, Ga.

After winning the title from 1992-96, the Wildcats women's golf team won this year's annual event by a considerable 43-stroke advantage. B-CU finished with a score of 76-over par (644), while second-place finisher Jackson State shot 687 (+119) for the two-day event. B-CU collected the win by 32 strokes last year for the title.

Ebonie Burgess, an up-and-coming sophomore from Devonshire, Bermuda, collected her first tournament victory of the season, and her third Top-5 finish of the 2006-07 campaign. She finished up by shooting a remarkable 153 score (79 / 74) to finish-up 11-over par. All six Wildcats finished in the first 11 golfers for the weekend. Burgess, who missed all of last year's spring campaign due to family reasons, has been on a mission since returning to B-CU in the fall.

Junior Becky Dowell continues her impressive season as she finished in the Top-10 for the sixth time this year ... out of 11 tournaments. The junior product of Somerset, England [Holyrood Community School] shot a total of 164 (80 / 84) to place fourth overall, while two fellow Wildcat golfers finished tied for fifth place.

Freshman Matilda Creime and sophomore Fern Grimshaw tallied a 165 for the weekend. Grimshaw, missing two tournaments due to an injury, has now place inn the Top-5 finishers in three of the last four tournaments.

Maria Garrido, one of three freshmen seeing valuable time this year for the `Cats, shot a 167 (84 / 83) to tie alongside Merielle LeBlanc of Jackson State. Fellow freshman Maria Urquiola shot a 170 (82 / 88) to finish 11th overall.

Shasta Averyhardt (Jackson State), Georgette Rollo (Texas Southern) and the three B-CU players rounded out the top five finishers on the weekend. Fellow MEAC members South Carolina State and Hampton also competed in the tournament. SCSU finished fourth (738) while Hampton (790) placed fifth.

The women's team will take to the links once again in two weeks when they travel down to Port St. Lucie, Fla. for the Minority Golf Championship hosted by the PGA. B-CU won the event last year, and looks for a repeat performance with improved golfers this year, and the much-heralded return of Ebonie Burgess to the lineup.
