VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) officials announce the eight-team MEAC Bowling Championships field, for the upcoming tournament in March 2010, at Gate City Lanes in Greensboro, N.C. Consistently earning a spot since the program's inception, the Lady Wildcats notched a third-place finish in the MEAC Southern division to earn their place in the field.

The Lady Wildcats finished the fall season with an 18-21 overall record, including a 12-12 MEAC record. The season got off to a rocky start, but the Lady Wildcats quickly bounced back, showing steady improvement in each tournament since.

"I’m really pleased with the progress of the team this season," said B-CU Head Coach Tony O'Neal. "I am also very excited for the opportunity to compete for the MEAC Championship against some of the top talent in the county. Our expectation is to compete and win the MEAC title. I know that both the team and I are looking forward to the challenge."

Defending conference champion and ranked third nationally, the Delaware State Lady Hornets, captured the Northern divisional title with 29-1 mark in MEAC play and 46-10 overall record. Meanwhile, Florida A&M claimed its first Southern divisional title, finishing with a 19-5 MEAC record and 29-12 overall.


 

 

Joining B-CU and FAMU at the tournament in representation of the Southern division, Norfolk State finished 14-10 in MEAC play, while South Carolina State wrapped up the conference season 11-13.

The top four teams from each division compete in the conference tournament. North Carolina A&T is the host school with the tournament held at Gate City Lanes in Greensboro, N.C. The tournament begins Friday, March 19 with a qualifying round to determine seeding. Teams will then compete in a second qualifying round with Baker games and placed in a double-elimination bracket.Play continues on Saturday with teams competing in a best-of-seven Baker series.
 
The 2010 MEAC Bowling Championship will conclude on Sunday, March 21 beginning with the semifinal round and concluding with the championship final. Match times will be announced at a later date.
