Sumter, S.C. - Bethune-Cookman Bowling took some time to shake off the last tournament, and got right back to bowling brilliantly on the second day of the MEAC Southern Division match in Sumter, S.C. The event was hosted by South Carolina State University. B-CU (17-16) was just 2-3 on the first day of competition as losses to North Carolina A&T, Norfolk State and rival Florida A&M seemed to shock the younger Wildcats squad. Head coach Jerry Norris reassembled his team afterwards, and they were brilliant in baker matches for the second time this year. B-CU did get wins over Winston-Salem State (776-644)--led by the play of Ta'Shieka Green's match-high 203, as well as South Carolina State. Against the Bulldogs of SCSU, it was Green once again with a team-high 215. The `Cats were just 1-4 two weeks ago at the UMES Hawks Classic, but stormed back with a 4-1 mark this past weekend. B-CU topped WSSU, 623-481 in an amazing exhibition of bowling. That was followed up with an 860-734 victory over Norfolk State in five games. The best match-up may have been between South Carolina State where the `Cats held off the Bulldogs with a 997-919 advantage. Karmethia Thompson was the high roller for the Wildcats over the weekend with an average of 157.8 on a pin-count of 789. Behind her with a good performance was senior Ta'Shieka Green with a season-best 215 pins against South Carolina State in a 775-644 win in team matches. Bethune-Cookman will get back to the lanes against the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (Southern Division) after a rest. Their next match will not be until Jan. 12-13 in Winston-Salem, N.C. This is the first time MEAC newcomer WSSU is hosting an MEAC sanctioned event.
