ORMOND BEACH, Fla. - The Lady Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman Bowling returned to competition Sunday morning at Ormond Lanes to wrap up the second MEAC Southern Division tournament of the 2009-10 season. Sunday's matches consisted of round-robin Baker play against conference divisional opponents. B-CU had an up-and-down day, with close calls that went both ways. B-CU finished 2-3 in Baker play, coming out 6-4 in the overall tournament.

The Lady Wildcats opened the day matching up with North Carolina A&T. B-CU put N.C. A&T at a disadvantage quickly, going up 3-0 in the match, but fell in the fourth match, while substituting players for more playing time, with A&T only winning the game by three pins. With that taste of success, the Lady Aggies rallied up and pushed the match to seven games. However, B-CU took care of N.C. A&T handily in the final game, winning 212-158. The Lady Wildcats won the opening match, 4-3, in games of 180-157, 189-181, 153-134, 153-150 (L), 145-136 (L), 178-164 (L), and 212-158.

In the second match, B-CU faced Florida A&M, but finding that rivals that you defeat on the first day may come hungry for wins on the second day. FAMU took the first match, but B-CU fought back to take the second game. However, FAMU got on a roll to claim the next three games and win the match 4-1, finishing in scores of 211-133 (L), 191-169, 184-153 (L), 210-170 (L), and 175-150.

In the next match, South Carolina State took B-CU to task, winning in straight games, 4-0, in scores of 197-190 (L), 201-167 (L), 180-169 (L), and 193-132 (L).

While recovering from the letdown in match three, B-CU caught a couple of close game losses early in the fourth match against Norfolk State. In the match, NSU came up with key pickups and strikes at just the right time and took down B-CU in four games, winning 202-190 (L), 195-190 (L), 197-145 (L), and 183-154 (L).

B-CU bounced back in the final match of tournament, facing Winston-Salem State, grabbing two quick wins. WSSU stole a win in the third game, but B-CU came right back and closed out the match with two straight wins. B-CU won 4-1 in scores of 179-133, 149-146, 155-144 (L) 192-149, and 178-116.

The tournament was an excellent opportunity to play in front of a home crowd, but also gave B-CU a chance to make some moves in MEAC competition, finishing Baker play 2-3, but coming out 6-4 overall in the tournament. With the results this weekend, B-CU moves to a record of 7-9 in MEAC play.

For the first time since the season opened, the Lady Wildcats get a short break, heading out to their third MEAC Southern Division tournament, Saturday, December 5, traveling to Sumter, S.C.
