Jan. 15, 2007 Virginia Beach, Va. - Bethune-Cookman College women's basketball player Tristan McCray has been named as this week's Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office this afternoon in Virginia Beach, Virginia. McCray, nicknamed "T-Mac" by the B-CC women's team alongside Tracy McGrady--a fellow Floridian from Polk County, was a spark plug for the Wildcats last week as she helped to guide the `Cats to their best week of the season at a 2-1 record. The `Cats knocked off Norfolk State for their first conference win of the campaign, as well as their first road victory with a win over intrastate opponent North Florida. Their only loss came to MEAC foe North Carolina A&T. McCray, a 5-foot-8 senior guard/forward, plays all over the court for the Wildcats. She has the frame of a guard, and the heart of a center ... maybe the biggest of all. She is a Gainesville, Florida native, and transferred into the Wildcats program a year ago from Central Florida Community College. On the week, Tristan McCray scored double figures in each of the `Cats three games. She shot. 42.4 percent from the field on 14-of-33 shots, including four (4) three-pointers to show off her long range capabilities. She showed off her ballhandling skills with 14 assists dished out, including five in back-to-back games. On the defensive end of the court, McCray collected eight steals and brought in 15 rebounds. Against Norfolk State, she notched her first double-double of the year with 10 points and 10 rebounds. It was also the second double-double of her short but impressive career at B-CC.
This is the first time this season that Tristan McCray has been named as MEAC Player of the Week.
