Lady Wildcats Hold Off Morgan State in Second Half to Advance to MEAC SemifinalWhat a roller coaster of a game, Wednesday, at the MEAC Championship women's quarterfinal. The Lady Wildcats, seeded sixth, faced off with the third-seeded Lady Bears of Morgan State. Led by Demetria Frank's ten points in the first half, B-CU got off to a dominating 21-point halftime lead. Though MSU slowed the Lady Wildcats in the second half, they remained steady, pushed up by Jasmine Bugg, who scored 15 to lead the team in holding off Morgan State, and send B-CU to victory, 63-52. With the win, B-CU earned their first MEAC semifinal appearance in 18 seasons. [+] 3/9/10
Lady Wildcats Defeat Norfolk State to Advance in MEAC Tournament Opening RoundThe Lady Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman women's basketball opened play on a strong note at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Basketball Championships, Tuesday, at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The sixth-seeded Lady Wildcats faced off with eleventh seed Norfolk State. The first half turned out to be a grind-it-out struggle, but B-CU separated late in the half, creating a nine-point halftime advantage. In the second-half, B-CU had a slow start but pushed back out once they got rolling, holding off several NSU rallies to get back into the game. Lady Wildcats Snakebitten; Come Up Short in Last-Moment Comeback Against FAMU, Fall 81-71Tonight's game between the Lady Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman women's basketball and the Lady Rattlers of Florida A&M came to a dramatic ending as FAMU defeated B-CU at the newly-constructed Al Lawson Center on the campus of Florida A&M. The game was a pivotal matchup in the plans of each team as they headed into post-season play at the conference tournament. B-CU came out sluggish and was outshot as the first half wound down, while FAMU built a 17-point halftime lead. Down 22, late in the game, B-CU mounted a massive comeback to narrow the deficit to five, but came up short, and FAMU pulled away in the closing seconds, 81-71. [+] 3/4/10
Vanessa Inge Named MEAC Coach of the Year; Frank Tabbed All-MEAC Second TeamIn an official announcement Thursday, conference officials named Bethune-Cookman women's basketball Head Coach Vanessa Inge the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Coach of the Year. This is the first MEAC honor for the second-year coach, but far from her first accolades. MEAC officials also announced the All-MEAC teams, and for the third consecutive year, a Lady Wildcats was on the lists, as Demetria Frank was recognized on the All-MEAC second team for the second time. Lady Wildcats Season Garners Most Wins in 22 Years, but Finds Success in Many WaysThe beginning of March is in the books, and the Lady Wildcats are in the middle of one of the best seasons in program history, knocking out records and streaks in the Bethune-Cookman women's basketball record book. Amidst this year's successes, the team has built one of the best seasons since joining the ranks of NCAA Division I, and the MEAC, in the 1980-81 season. However, the recent success is not all about the straight-line snapshot of wins and losses; it's just as much about a change in the Lady Wildcats, which focuses on all-around team success, under second-year Head Coach Vanessa Inge.
