Daytona Beach, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman University broke their three-match losing skid on Thursday with a 5-2 victory over visiting Lafayette University in a men's tennis contest held at the City Island Tennis Complex in Daytona Beach, Fla. B-CU (7-9) got production from a variety of players today in the win. The No. 1 spot was secured in easy fashion for B-CU's Thabani Sithole with a 6-3, 3-1 win in a retirement over Lafayette's Paul Garino. Jerome Ward defeated LU's Brett Kraft with scores of 6-2, 6-1 in a straight-set match. Lafayette did take the No. 2 and No. 6 positions on the day. LU's Eric Wiley battled past Christian Cruz for the 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 win. Cruz, looking for his fifth win of the year, fell to 4-11 at the No. 2 spot for the Wildcats. B-CU's Stefan James looked incredibly strong at the No. 4 spot for the Wildcats as he collected his ninth win of the 2007 spring season with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Lee Kojanis. Yannick Jackson also won at the No. 5 spot with a straight-set 6-3, 6-2 win over LU's Steven Benezra. The victory today is the first at home for the Wildcats during the 2007 spring campaign. They are now 7-9 on the year, and earned their seventh win in the last 10 matches ... including a 5-1 mark during the MEAC Round-Up in Altamonte Springs, Fla. just two weeks ago. The `Cats will be back in action on Saturday at the City Island Tennis Complex in Daytona Beach, Fla. B-CU will take on Saint Louis University at 1 p.m. Admission to the event is absolutely FREE!
