Statesboro, Ga. - Bethune-Cookman College men's tennis fell to 0-4 on the season Saturday with a 7-0 loss at the hands of Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Ga. The contest was held at the Hanner Fieldhouse Courts on the campus of Georgia Southern. Vowing to show team unity an support, Bethune-Cookman head coach Trey Bogue says he will not shave his facial hair until the men's team collects their first win. Well, Coach Bogue will have to wait at least one day longer as the men's squad suffered their fourth consecutive loss this year to drop to 0-4 on the campaign. Georgia Southern (2-5) started off the match with a quick sweep of the doubles point. The only match that was really contested came at the No. 1 position with the Eagles' Borja Malet and Philip Prins narrowly edging the Wildcats team of Thabani Sithole and Christian Cruz, 8-7. In singles action, just three Wildcats managed over a 6-1 loss on the day. B-CC freshman Yannick Jackson--a highly-touted recruit from Jackson Senior High School, fell by a count of 6-1, 6-2 to Malet in the No. 5 position. In the top spot (No. 1), Sithole fought tough with Georgia Southern's Joris De Weerdt, though falling in the with scores of 6-1, 6-4. The Wildcats' Stefan James fell by a similar 6-1, 6-2 decision in the No. 4 position to Prins. With the win, GSU improved to 2-5 on the year, while the Wildcats have now been swept by three of their four opponents on the campaign. B-CC fell 6-1 to nearby Stetson University on Feb. 7 in Daytona Beach. The Wildcats will stay in the state of Georgia on Sunday as they travel to Macon for a noon contest with Mercer University. The women are scheduled for a contest at the same time with the Bears.
