Orangeburg, S.C. - The Bethune-Cookman College men's golf team went ahead early and never looked back en route to a decisive first place championship at the 2006 South Carolina State Bulldog Classic on Monday and Tuesday in Orangeburg, South Carolina. The event took place at the Hillcrest Golf Course.

B-CC's Carl Corbin (Reading, England) finished as the top `Cat in the event, finishing as one of just two players to finish under-par overall. Corbin's score of (-2) was good enough to tie for first place alongside Alabama State's Devin Crenshaw. The two golfers had identical scores on opposite days with a 69 & 73, respectively.

Bethune-Cookman finished 36 strokes ahead of second place competitor and host South Carolina State. The Wildcats finished just one stroke over-par at (+1) with a 577 total score. S.C. State finished at (+36) with a final score of 613.

The Wildcats Juan Ronderos, Rhys Lindquist (Carmarten, South Wales) and Stefan Strandlund (Linkoping, Sweden) all tied for third place, as well as South Carolina State's Trevor Pleasant.

Ronderos shot scores of 74 & 71 (+1), while Lyndquist had a 73 & 72 (+1) and Strandlund finished with a 71 & 74 (+1).

B-CC had two other golfers competing in the annual event in Dan Venema and Gregory Goad. Venema and Goad both tied at eighth place overall with (+8) and a score of 151. They matched each other both days with a 75 and 76 round score.

The Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman will now look to get back to practice, and will wait for just over a month before competing in their next event at the old North Course in Port St. Lucie, Florida in an event sponsored by the PGA of America on May 5-7.
