Feb. 27, 2006 Daytona Beach, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman College men's golf proclaimed their dominance of their own event over the weekend with a first place finish by 22 strokes over the second place competitor to win the annual Bethune-Cookman College Spring Invitational held on Feb. 26-27 at the Indigo Lakes Golf Course in Daytona Beach, Florida. Six of the seven Wildcat golfers finished in the top 20 of this year's event. Led by the clubs of senior Rhys Linquist (Carmarten, South Wales), B-CC had three golfers finish amongst the top 5 competitors. Stefan Strandlund (Linkoping, Sweden) and Carl Corbin finished with a 2nd and tie for 4th place, respectively. Strandlund ended the weekend with a score of 148, while Corbin ended the event with a total score of 152. Strandlund shot a low round of 70 on Friday, while Lindquist shot right behind him with a 71. Also playing well was Dan Venema. Venema finished the weekend with rounds of 77 and 79 (156 total), good enough for a tie for seventh place with Richard Grove (Embry-Riddle) and Alex Arrigo (Siena). Sean Edey shot 160 (t-13th), and freshman golfer Juan Ronderos finished the weekend with 161 (19th) while competing individually for the `Cats outside of the team scoring. Gregory Goad competed individually as well with rounds of 82 and 84 altogether. With Bethune-Cookman finishing first in the event, Siena (2nd), Stetson (3rd), Embry-Riddle (4th) and Savannah State (5th) rounded out the top 5 teams on the weekend. Bethune-Cookman College will be back in action in two weeks when they compete in the Treasure Coast WTC Hero's Classic in Ft. Pierce, Florida, taking place at the Indian Hills Golf Course.
