Oct. 9, 2005 Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman College Men's Golf played tough over the weekend, but faltered on the last two days in order to finish 9th overall at the Mission Inn Collegiate Classic in Howey-In-The-Hills, Florida. Though finishing tied for second place with Jacksonville State after the first day, the Wildcats seemed to have some trouble in the next two rounds. The first day was highlighted by Carl Corbin's hole-in-one [ace] shot on the eight hole, par three (165 yds.) for the junior's first ace of his career. Behind the effort's of Corbin's ace, as well as the incredible play of Rhys Lindquist (Carmarten, South Wales) and Dan Venema, the `Cats trailed by just five strokes to leader Old Dominion with a score of 286. On the second day, the `Cats fell to sixth place as they registered seven more shots (293) than they did on Day One. Lindquist stayed even as he shot a mirror-image 70 from the first day's action, while Sean Edey came alive with the putter to become the second-best Wildcat of the second round ... though finishing tied for 40th overall in the tournament. As the tournament wound down on the third day, Bethune-Cookman shot two strokes higher with a score of 295 in order to earn ninth place for the event. Stefan Strandlund (Linkoping, Sweden) and Venema continued outstanding play in order to keep the `Cats in the top 10 for the weekend with 22 strokes over par. Jacksonville State won the tournament by finishing seven strokes under par with a total score of 845. Murray State also finished in the red with two strokes under par and a score of 850 for the weekend. Old Dominion, Elon, Radford & St. John's rounded out the top 5. Radford and St. John's finished the weekend tied for fifth. Bethune-Cookman will look to get back to their "normal" top 5 play when they return to action in two weeks as they head to a tournament hosted by Nova Southeastern at the PGA National Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The event is set to begin on October 23 and run through the following day.
