Dr. Gary Freeman Steps Down As Men's & Women's B-CU Golf Coach
Dr. Gary Freeman, B-CU's men's and women's golf coach since August of 1998, will be stepping down as coach. Coach Freeman will stay to help with the transition of naming a new coach by the end of the year. "Gary Freeman has been a Godsend to our university," said B-CU Athletic Director Lynn Thompson. SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - B-CU's Willie Mack III was the tournament medalist shooting rounds of 68-75 - 143 to nip Virginia State's Greg Hunt by one stroke - in the Savannah State University Tiger Fall Invitational Tournament held Monday and Tuesday. Last week, Mack III was second overall being edged by one shot for medalist honors at the FGCU Invitational. Virginia State won the team title by six shots over runnerup Bethune-Cookman - 622-628. DeLand, Florida - Florida Gulf Coast University won the team title and FGCU's Patrick Williams edged B-CU's Willie Mack III by one shot for medalist honors in the Stetson University Invitational. The 'Cats Mack, co-leader after 36 holes, shot rounds of 68-70-73, 5-under par 211 for the tournament. Williams' 73-67-70-210 beat Mack by the lone shot to win the individual title. DeLand, Florida - Willie Mack III of B-CU shot a four-under par 68 Monday to share medalist honors with FGCU's Michael Hart Monday at the Stetson University Holiday Inn Express-Hatter Invitational. Florida Gulf Coast University leads the team competition by seven shots over Murray State of Kentucky and host Stetson. B-CU is in 6th place in the nine-team field. DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA- Florida Atlantic University had a strong final 18 holes on Sunday and swept away from Florida Gulf Coast University by 16 strokes to win the team championship of the B-CU Fall Invitational at the LPGA Legends Course. Stetson's Sam Ryder was the tournament medalist shooting an -8 under par 208/54-hole score.
