On the heels of his outstanding starting performance under center, Quarterback Matt Johnson earned the first MEAC Offensive Player of the Week award for 2010. Johnson led the Wildcats early in the game, garnering 281 yards of total offense off a 9-of-11 passing performance for 159 yards, and 122 yards rushing on just four runs. Also grabbing the first honor of his young career, redshirt freshman place kicker Sven Hurd received the MEAC Rookie of the Week honors, after firing five kickoffs deep for a 59.4 yard average to pin EWC deep in their own territory, in addition to putting in a perfect 10-of-10 on extra points for the Wildcats. Head Coach Brian Jenkins has a bye week in front of his team, but that doesn’t mean they’ll be dropping off any intensity, taking the time to refine their game even further, then turn the focus toward the September 18 matchup with Savannah State at Municipal Stadium.
