Jan. 20, 2012 Reach FB Contact Michael Stambaugh for more details by E-Mail BOCA RATON, Fla. – Six Wildcats will take the football field on Saturday, proudly wearing the Bethune-Cookman logo on their helmets for what is likely the last time in their careers. Those six graduating seniors will match up with the best senior talent that the state of Florida had to offer in the Inaugural Battle of Florida on January 21. Center Natiel Curry, defensive end Ryan Davis, safety Jean Fanor, linebacker Ryan Lewis, linebacker Reggie Sandilands, and safety Michael Williams will join 100 of their fellow Floridians 8:00 p.m. EST Saturday night at Florida Atlantic University Stadium for the first-ever all-Florida senior All-Star Game. Bethune-Cookman is well represented on the rosters, but holds a truly unique honor in having six of only sixteen total players from the Division I Football Championship Subdivision playing in the game. B-CU also shares the lead for most players in the game with South Florida and Central Florida. The players can also expect to be well-coached, having gone through a week of All-Star training and prep, in addition to workouts and discussions with NFL and CFL scouts. The split of the rosters was divided at a point stretching from New Port Richey to Cocoa Beach. The South Team will be coached by historical college and NFL coach Howard Shnellenberger. His team holds five of B-CU’s players (Curry, Fanor, Lewis, Sandilands, Williams) who are all from the greater Miami area. Coaching the North Team will be Florida State University legend Bobby Bowden, who will have Davis at his charge on defense.
The game kicks off at FAU Stadium at 8:00 p.m. EST on January 21, 2012, and will be broadcast live nationwide on Fox College Sports, including FCS-Atlantic (Brighthouse Networks Channel 185). The Bethune-Cookman Alumni Association is also hosting multiple events surrounding the game and at the game site.
