2006 (Senior)... Played in all 11 games while making the start in eight of those contests for the Wildcats Finished eighth on the squad in total tackles with 30 to his credit Added a career-best 20 solo stops on the year, as well as picking up a season-best six (6) pass deflections Finished the campaign second on the team in pass breakups Posted one quarterback hurry for the season Registered 5.5 tackles behind the line of scrimmage for a loss of 22 yards to the opposition Had 2.5 quarterbacks sacks (-13 yards) Picked off the first pass since his freshman year in a nationally-televised contest at Hampton, but failed to register a return on the interception Collected a season-best four solo tackles against Southern in the Gateway Classic in his hometown of Jacksonville, Fla. Recorded two pass deflections and a tackle against South Carolina State in the Low Country Classic in Charleston, S.C. Poured in a season-high five tackles (three assisted) against Winston-Salem State on Homecoming in Daytona Beach Also had four total tackles in games at Hampton and at home against Delaware State. 2005 (Junior)... Ben Ballard saw playing time in nine games for the Wildcats as a second-year junior, as well as a starting job in the contest against Norfolk State in a four-overtime contest against the Spartans Ballard tied for fifth on the squad in tackles (50 total) with 31 assisted stops Tied for sixth on the squad in tackles for loss (5.5-29) Tallied two quarterbacks sacks for a loss of 16 yards Had three pass breakups and three forced fumbles on the campaign Also rushed the quarterback twice while almost causing an interception that slipped through the hands of Larry Summers against Elizabeth City State in the season-opener In his first collegiate start against NSU, Ballard tallied 12 tackles (five solo) with one pass deflection Picked up a tackle-for-loss in three straight games to open up the year against ECSU, Arkansas-Pine Bluff and South Carolina State Forced a fumble against SCSU, Delaware State and North Carolina A&T Picked up seven tackles against Morgan State, including five assisted stops Also collected a quarterback rush and a pass breakup in that game Had 10 tackles (nine assists) against UAPB in the second game of the year. 2004 (Sophomore)... Played in nine games for the Wildcats in his first season with the program Tallied a total of nine tackles on the year with eight assisted tackles Had one tackles for loss (-10 yards) against Grambling State in the Proctor and Gamble Ohio Classic in Cincinnati, Ohio Also had two solo stops in the game against the GSU Tigers Picked up one tackle (assist) and an interception in his first collegiate game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, while returning the ball 15 yards on the play Posted interceptions against Norfolk State and North Carolina A&T, respectively, for three interceptions on the season Finished his first year tied for third on the squad in interceptions (3) Collected one fumble return for 21 yards in the season finale against Florida A&M in the Walt Disney Florida Classic in Orlando, Fla.
