A Winter blizzard could not stop the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats Friday night with a hard-earned 65-58 overtime win on national ESPNU TV over Coppin State.

B-CU (now 14-9 overall, 6-3, MEAC) won the milestone 100th career win for Head Coach Cliff Reed.
The game featured 15 lead changes and the score was tied 15 times at Coppin State's new Physical Education Complex.

"We had enough will power and perseverence and grit to get a win on the road," said Coach Reed. "We showed the toughness to play through when we weren't playing all that well and we found a way to win. The players should be applauded for that tonight."

The Wildcats led 48-41 with 7:33 remaining after picking up the defensive intensity with Coppin State going over six minutes without scoring a point (from 12:02 to 6:35 remaining).

CSU came back to take a 53-52 lead with 2:14 remaining on a four-point play by Quinton Reggins.  B-CU's Albert Abrahams hit two free throws and Alexander Starling had a big stick back bucket with 54 seconds remaining to give the Cage 'Cats 56-54 lead. Coppin State tied it up 56 all on a Eddie Hayden basket.  CSU stopped the Wildcats on the last possession of regulation to force the OT.

100th Career Win At B-CU For Coach Reed

Friday night's win was a special one for the Wildcats and the eighth year Head Coach Cliff Reed (B-CC 1991 grad) winning his 100th career win as a head coach at his alma mater. "It is a great milestone and I have endured through the seasons.  I will look more at it after the season but this means we are winning games and becoming the quality program we want to be."

C. J. Reed hit a huge three-pointer to open the overtime session and B-CU scored the first nine points in OT to lead 65-56 with CSU scoring a bucket with two seconds left in the game to make the final score 65-58. "In overtime, C.J. hitting that three was a big relief for us and a big shot. We had a cushion late in the game and didn't hold the lead. In overtime, we rebounded better and got some stops."

B-CU was 0-13 in three-pointers before Reed's OT three and for the game 1-14 from long range. Both teams struggled shooting in the game - B-CU was 20-53 (.377 %) field goals and Coppin State (5-16, 0-9, MEAC) shot only .328 % (19-58 field goals) but CSU hit 6-17 three-pointers.

Reed led the Wildcats in scoring with 21 points, 4 assists and two steals. Junior center Albert Abrahams had a big-game for B-CU with a 19 points, 10 rebounds double-double. Alexander Starling had 12 points and 6 rebounds and Javoris Bryant had nine rebounds and played a career-high 37 minutes for the winners.

Over two feet of snow is expected to fall in the Baltimore area the next 24-48 hours. B-CU plays next at MEAC league-leader Morgan State, 7:30 p.m. Monday night in Baltimore. The FAMU-Morgan State game set for Saturday has been postponed until Super Bowl Sunday afternoon in Baltimore.

"We have got to bring our A-game to be in the game Monday night at Morgan State," said Coach Reed. "I think we can go in there (Morgan State) and play a better game than we did tonight. We've won the first game of the road trip and we want to win each game we play."
