Wildcats Down 27 in First Half - Rally Falls Short , Lose 67-64 At Howard University - Tied With Bison at 5-2 In MEAC - Second Place Behind Morgan State's 6-0 mark

"Our guys just can't show up, they need to play with tenacity, defend and rebound and we didn't do any of that in the first half tonight," said B-CU Head Coach Cliff Reed.

Howard (6-15, 5-2 MEAC) shot 50% in the first half (12-24) and hit 5-10 three-pointers in the first 20 minutes to take a commanding 37-16 halftime lead.  The Bison led by 27 points, 37-10 with 2:04 to play before B-CU closed the first half with six points. The Wildcats made only 6-21 field goals (28 % in the first half).
"Howard was smarting from their loss to FAMU (Saturday night) and they came out and played hard and played well in the first half. We didn't match their effort and their tenacity until the second half," said Coach Reed.

Bethune-Cookman (12-8, 5-2, MEAC) made a valiant second half comeback out-scoring the Bison 48-30 and closing to 66-64 down on a Jarrell Thomas three-pointer with 1.8 second left. Howard's Mike Phillips made 1-2 free throws with 1.3 seconds left and C. J. Reed's desperation heave from half court was no good at the buzzer.
The Wildcats shot 20-36 field goals (55.6 %) in the second half and out-rebounded the Bison 35-31 in the ball game. Thomas hit 3-5 three-pointers in the second half and C. J. Reed hit 1-2 from long range to lead the furious comeback at Burr Gymnasium.

"I commend the players for their effort in the second half.  It was a great effort, finding ways to make plays and get back into the game," said Coach Reed. "If we are to be a championship program, we have to bring that effort every night.  Champions know how to work through adversity and we have to learn to play with poise and effort and tenacity at all times."

C. J. Reed led B-CU in scoring with 20 points (16 in the second half) and off the bench Jarrell Thomas and Javoris Bryant had 13 points each.

Dadrian Collins led Howard with 18 points (11 in the first half) and Calvin Thompson scored 13 for the winners.

B-CU (12-8, 5-2, MEAC), next plays at Moore Gymnasium, Saturday, 4 p.m. vs. South Carolina State University with the game designated Youth Day and all High School kids get in for free - first come first serve basis as the Moore Gymnasium will have capacity rules in effect by the B-CU security department.
