Daytona Beach, Fla. - Evan Cohn hit back-to-back three-pointers late in the game to pull Lynn University to a 73-67 come-from-behind win over Bethune-Cookman College in a men's basketball exhibition contest on Tuesday night at Moore Gym in Daytona Beach, Florida. In the first and only exhibition game of the 2006-07 season for the Bethune-Cookman College Wildcats, the `Cats had to claw back from a 36-29 halftime deficit in order to pull ahead 64-63 with 2:31 left in the game courtesy a three-point play the old-fashioned way with Sam Barber (Palm Beach, Fla.) hitting a lay-up and getting the free throw on the foul. This was the end of a 12-7 run in favor of the `Cats. That's when Lynn's Evan Cohn, who finished the night with a game-high 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field--all three point baskets as well. Cohn stepped up as the shot clock wound down for the Fighting Knights and knocked in a fade-away three-point basket to put Lynn back on top 66-64. On the ensuing possession for the Fighting Knights, Cohn was at it again with another three-point shot, this time early-on in the possession. The Wildcats were unable to bounce back as they trailed 69-64 with 1:18 remaining in the game. Free throws by Andrew Smith and Cohn, who finished the night with a perfect 9-of-9 mark from the foul line, iced the game for the NCAA Division II affiliated Fighting Knights. With Cohn leading all scorers with 21 points, Smith added 15 points and five assists. Cohn's six assists was also a game-high, while Hans Schur added 10 points to round-out the double-digit scoring for the Fighting Knights. B-CC fell behind early in the game as Lynn jumped out to an 8-2 lead before Kevan Creppy (Silver Spring, Md.) led the charge back with a pair of lay-ups and key offensive rebounds. Newcomer Josh Cummings (Chicago, Ill.) added a three-pointer to pull the score to 12-7 before a basket by Schur sparked a 10-6 run to put Lynn back out in front by nine (22-13).
Lynn led by seven (36-29) at the half before Creppy nailed a jumper from the right side to put B-CC back in it at 43-41 just under six minutes into the second half. Bethune-Cookman was led on the night by Barber with 12 points and eight rebounds, while teammate Creppy added 11 points and eight boards himself. The Wildcats will now get ready for their first regular season contest of the year as they host Florida Tech next Thursday at 7 p.m. in Moore Gymnasium.
