B-CU BASEBALL SIGNS EIGHT PLAYERS

The NCAA early signing period ended this week and the B-CU Wildcat baseball program signed eight student-athletes to attend the university in the 2010-2011 school year.

"We are very happy with our recruiting class," said B-CU Head Baseball Coach Mervyl Melendez. "We addressed the needs of our program. We believe that all these players will help us in their first year (2011 season). We are looking forward to having these players with us next season. The future is bright for all them."

Below are the B-CU baseball early signees and Coach Melendez comments on each player.

Scott Garner: 6-2 · 195 · RHP · Port Orange Fl /Spruce Creek High School

"Scott will make an immediate impact at the Division I level. He will have the chance to develop into a front of the rotation pitcher. His make up and ability to pitch made him one of the top High School pitchers in the state of Florida."

 

Ronald Lozada:         6-O · 180 · RHP · Miami FL /Ferguson High School

"Ronald is a high profile recruit out of the Miami area. He is an athlete on the mound and will pay immediate dividends for our program. Ronald played the 2009 summer with Coach Braun on one of the most respected programs in the state (All American Prospects)."

 

Anthony Stokes: 6-3 oe 210 oe LHP/1B oe Cheseapeake, VA /Great Bridge High School

 "Anthony is a dominant LHP who pitches in the upper 80's with good command of his pitches. Anthony is one of the top prospects in the state of Virginia. He participated in the East Coast Pro Showcase in Lakeland Florida as one of the best LHP and 1b in the entire event."

 

Montana Durapau: 6-0 oe 170 oe RHP oe Deltona Fl/Deltona High School

 

"Montana is a good pitcher who possesses a great arm. He has the ability to dominate games with his fastball, power breaking ball and the ability to throw all of his pitches for strikes."

 

Bryan Rivera: 6-1 oe 170 oe LHP oe Cidra PR/ Caguas Military Academy

 

"Bryan has a great feel for all the pitches. Bryan is arguably the best LHP out of Puerto Rico. He combines a great breaking ball with an upper 80's fastball. He has the tools to become a special pitcher at the Division 1 level."

 

 

Brashad Johnson: 6-1 oe 200 oe SS oe New Hope MN/ Des Moines Area CC

 

"Brashad is a great player who will be key to our success next year. He played for Coach Fitzgerald at DMACC, a very good team that went 55-11 during the 2009 season and reached the JUCO DII World Series. Brashad put up outstanding numbers in 2009 with a .352 batting average, 12 home runs and 65 runs batted in, good enough to earn 2nd Team All Region XI."

 

Nick Johnson: 6-4 oe 210 oe 1B/0F oe Lakeville MN / Iowa Central CC

 

"Nick is a big kid who will hit in the middle of the lineup for us. He is a proven hitter at the JUCO Level. Nick hit 325 along with 13 Homeruns and 41 runs batted in good enough to earn him Honorable Mention in Region XI. Nick plays  for an extremely good program coached by Rick Pederson at Iowa Central."

 

 

Paul Biocic (P.J): 5-9 oe 160 oe MIF oe Merritt Island FL/ Merritt Island  High School

 

"PJ is a great defender with the ability to play the entire infield. PJ possesses all the game intangibles that one can't teach. He is the ultimate team player whose ability and instincts will be able to help us immediately."
