Durrence Home Run In Ninth - B-CU Upsets #15 Miami 1-0

Coral Gables, Fla -

Ryan Durrence hit his team-leading ninth home run of the year in the 9th inning to lead B-CU to a 1-0 win over #15 ranked Miami Hurricanes.

Four Wildcat pitchers combined on a five-hit shutout for the second all-time win over Miami in 20 career meetings.

Durrence's game winning blast to left field - supported the six scoreless innings of starter Hiram Burgos who struck out eight and allowed four hits and no runs. Relievers Andrew Tilka (7th) , Edgar Serra (8th) and Felix Machado (9th) came into the ball game in relief of Burgos.

Machado earned his first save of the year getting out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the ninth getting Hurricane catcher Yasmani Grandal, (Miami's team HR leader with 14) to ground out back to the mound on a 3-2 pitch to preserve the shut out victory.

Edgar Serra (1-1), pitched 1.1 innings and earned the win in relief, the Wildcats are now 28-25 and Miami drops to 31-17.

Burgos-Hernendez Pitcher's Dual Scoreless Through Eight Innings - B-CU's CF Jones Throws Out Runner At Plate In Sixth Inning To Keep Score 0-0

Burgos pitched six scoreless innings striking out eight batters and got out of bases loaded jams in the fourth and sixth innings. Wildcats' CF Patrick Jones threw out a Miami base runner at the plate to preserve the 0-0 deadlock.  UM's Chris Hernendez pitched seven innings, striking out six bartters in the longest 0-0 game at Miami for the Canes since 1998 vs. North Carolina.

B-CU senior Chris Brown led the Wildcat seven-hit offense with two doubles.  The Wildcats out-hit the Hurricanes 7-5 in the contest.

The two teams play again Saturday night, 7 pm with B-CU's Eric Thomas (6-4) getting the pitching start.
