Ft. Myers, Fla - B-CU utilized the long ball - hitting four home runs to beat Towson University 12-4 in the late game Thursday night of the Florida Gulf Coast University tournament.


Chris Brown hit his second HR of the year, scored three runs, knocked in two and was 2-4 to pace the 11-hit offensive attack. Nine Wildcat players had one hit each and the other B-CU home runs were by Patrick Jones, Alejandro Jimenez, and freshman catcher Vincent Castro - homering in his first collegiate at bat.

Lefty starter Joseph Munoz pitched five innings to earn the win (1-0) in his first collegiate start after 20 relief appearances in 2008 and 2009. Munoz struck out seven and walked one, allowing eight hits and three earned runs against the Towson Tigers (1-4).

Four B-CU pitchers went an inning each to finish the final four frames - Edgar Serra (6th), Matt Crane (7th), Andrew Tilka (8th) and Arles Rivera (9th) finished up the game for the Wildcats who led 5-0 after three innings and upped the margin to 10-3 after six innings.


 

 

The FGCU tournament continues through Sunday - Friday's B-CU matchup vs. unbeaten Boston College (5-0) is set for 4 p.m. EST start in Ft. Myers.  'Cats ace Hiram Burgos (0-1) will get the pitching start vs. BC of the Big East Conference,  swept a four-game series last weekend at Stetson. BC won Thursday night 3-1, over South Florida.
