President Reed And 2009 Baseball Team Get Championship Rings
Bethune-Cookman University President Dr. Trudie Kibbe Reed was the honored guest Wednesday night with the 2009 Wildcat baseball team having its MEAC championship ring ceremony. Members of the championship team and the current 2010 team were in attendance along with B-CU staff and families. "It is a special night for us and to have President Reed there to receive her ring is special to us for her support of our baseball program," said B-CU Head Coach Mervyl Melendez. Twenty Bethune-Cookman University baseball players earned GPA grades of 3.0 or higher in the recently completed Fall semester. Coach Mervyl Melendez' team had a 3.17 team cumulative GPA for the semester. "I am proud of our guys and we want to excel in everything we do both in the class room and on the field," said Coach Melendez. "It shows our character and hard work that we put into academics. Rain last week has forced the changing of dates for the 2009 Advanced Skills B-CU Baseball Camp, according to Wildcat Head Baseball Coach Mervyl Melendez. The NCAA early signing period ended this week and the B-CU Wildcat baseball program signed eight student-athletes to attend the university in the 2010-2011 school year.
