Virginia Beach, Va. - Bethune-Cookman University cross country finished out the year with a solid eighth place showing at the MEAC Championships over the weekend at Mount Trashmore Park in Virginia Beach, Va.

Sophomore Alexandria Condell continued to help her own cause with an appearance on the All-MEAC squad after finished 15th overall in the meet with a time of 19:48.8 overall. Condell served as the most prolific women's cross country athlete in recent history at B-CU, and the first All-MEAC XC member under second-year head coach Garfield Ellenwood.

"I'm pleased with her [Condell] and hopefully it'll carry over to the indoor and outdoor seasons of track & field here at Bethune-Cookman," states Coach Ellenwood. "It was her first time running cross country in three years--since high school, this season for us."

Maryland Eastern Shore swept both the women's and men's events for this year, led on the women's side by Merrecia James with a time of 18:27.7. B-CU was unable to score on the men's side of the cross country championships due to the late injury of Franklin Harris, giving B-CU less than the mandatory five runners for scoring privileges.

UMES scored a total of 47 points, as B-CU collected 244 points altogether.

Back in the women's event, junior Alfreepha Stubbs collected a nice time of 22:46.9, while teammate Jacquennee Flowers finished with a mark of 22:51.2 overall.

Hampton (84), Howard (89), Morgan State (100) and Norfolk State (121) rounded out the top five teams on the women's side.

In the men's event, it was Norfolk State's Dominic Luka (25:09.2) taking home top honors, while teammate Hillary Cheruiyot helped the Spartans towards a second place finish with 56 points. UMES' 45 points was the top mark for the men's championship.

Howard (116), Delaware State (124) and Coppin State (133) rounded out the top five teams.

Junior track & field star Harold Rose, Jr. finished with a time of 33:51.1 as he prepares himself for what is sure to be a strong indoor season.
