Daytona Beach, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman University men's and women's cross country teams competed locally in long distance races over the weekend as they took part in the annual ERAU/Smoothie King Classic in Daytona Beach, Fla. The meet was hosted by Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. The Wildcats finished the day in ninth [women] and 12th [men] place overall. The women began the day with a 5k run on the Embry-Riddle Course. The Wildcats were led by junior transfer Alexandria Condell for the second consecutive meet as she secured a sixth place finish overall. On the men's side, Nick Gehlsen of Embry-Riddle, as well as teammate Henry Melius went one and two, respectively, as they helped the Eagles to secure a first place performance as a team with a score of 21 points. That was well ahead of Florida Tech who was in second place with 100 points. Xavier was a close third with 199 points for the men. Bethune-Cookman finished in the 12th position with a score of 307 for the day. The Wildcats were led by sophomore distance specialist Kyle Dillet with a time of 32:26.71. He would finish as the only Wildcat runner amongst the Top-75 on the day. Also performing well was Joel Redhead with a time of 34:14.96, while teammate Harold Rose, Jr. finished with a time of 35:38.35.
