Gainesville, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman worked hard over the last few weeks, and those workouts are starting to show as they performed well this weekend in the annual Florida Relays held at Pressly Stadium in Gainesville, Fla.

Over the course of the two-day event, Bethune-Cookman got impressive showings mostly in the field events.

Samantha Shade collected a fourth place showing in the Women's Triple Jump with a leap of 11.44m (37-06.50), while teammate Britney Gibson finished seventh with a distance covered of 11.12m (36-05.75). This is the second time this year Shade has finished in the top 10 of the triple jump event.

Meanwhile, Devin King-Pierre picked up another top 10 finish in the Women's Shot Put with a throw of 9.27m (30-05.00).

The Women's 1600 Sprint Medley team finished in 10th place with a time of 4:13.52. The team was comprised of Melissa Scott, Monique Scott, Teanne Sergeant and Tenisha Bryan.

"This weekend, I thought both squads ran very well, and are showing a lot of promise at a rapid pace for us," expressed B-CU first-year head coach Garfield Ellenwood. "I think we'll run well again next weekend in Miami."

In the men's events, the 4x200 Meter Relay squad consisted of Richard Woodbury, Harold Rose, Jr., Curtis Marshall and Jared Lawson. Together, the team picked up a time of 1:28.88 for a ninth place finish overall. An almost similar squad added Cecil Robertson and Kyle Dillet, finished fifth in the Men's 1600 Sprint Medley.
 

 

In the men's field events, it was all about Craig Johnson as he collected two top five finishes in both the Shot Put Javelin Throw. Johnson collected a throw of 39.83m (130-08) in the javelin, followed up by a 14.29m (46-10.75) throw in the shot put competition.

"We are really looking forward to Penn Relays, and ready to perform on an even higher level of competition," admits Coach Ellenwood. "The women have really started to come around, and I think we are always moving forward with each practice and competition."

The Wildcats will be back in action next weekend when they Coach Ellenwood takes two squads to both the Miami Elite (Miami, Fla.) and the Seminole Invitational (Tallahassee, Fla.). Results will be shown following the day's complete events on www.Hurricanesports.com, as well as www.Seminoles.com.
