B-CU wrapped up the weekend with solid finishes in the spring finals and middle distance events

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - The Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman Track & Field finished out the Niswonger Invitational, Saturday, at the ETSU Memorial Center. The day's events featured several relays, middle distance events, and sprint finals for B-CU. The Wildcats came away with some solid finishes in several events, making a solid showing against the large field of schools.

B-CU's best finish of the day came for the men's 4 x 400m relay 'A' (composed of Chris Jackson, Eric Cray, Marcell Keeling, and Martin Embry), which finished second, just behind Western Carolina. The group earned its silver with a time of 3:16.56. Group 'B' (made of Demetrius Douglas-Davis, Devon Creary, Chris Herring, and Robert Horton) finished thirteenth in 3:23.76.

In the women's 4 x 400m relay 'B', the team (composed of Alese Forbes, Alexandria Condell, Tanekia Flowers, and Ryan Sanders) crossed the finish at thirteenth in 4:00.44.


 

 

In the middle distance events, the Wildcats fared well, placing a top-five finish in the men's and women's. Marcell Keeling finished fourth in the men's 800m run, crossing the finish in a time of 1:55.97. On the women's side, Asia Henry finished fifth in a time of 2:23.08 in the 800m. Also in the 800, Alexandria Condell finished eleventh in 2:24.55.

In the sprint finals, the Wildcats built on performances in the preliminaries to turn in solid performances on Saturday. Analisa Austin finished fourth in the 60m dash finals, crossing the finish in 7.71 seconds. In the men's 60m dash, Eric Cray finished fifth in the Invitational University/College group, coming in with a time of 6.96 seconds. Also in the 60m, in the University/College group, Chris Jackson finished in 7.11 to finish 10th.

The Wildcats head out to Seattle, Washington, to face teams from the west coast in the UW Invitational, next week, Jan. 29-30.
